The fuel used in domestic kilns for lime production in Fuerteventura primarily comes from «aulaga» and other native plants. These plants, due to their abundance and ease of burning, are manually collected using tools such as picks and hoes. To maximize transport efficiency, the aulagas are compacted, either by trampling them or placing stones on top, before being loaded. Camels, adapted to the island’s dry climate, are the primary means of transport, equipped with saddles carefully adjusted to their morphology to ensure the safe transport of large volumes of fuel.
